Peg Michels and Anthony (Tony) Carl Massengale Sr. are co-authors the Civic Organizing Framework and are co-presidents of Civic Organizing, Inc.   Civic Organizing builds upon the lessons of democratic movements, community organizing, leadership and organizational development to renew the democratic purpose of institutions in the 21st century.

As president of Civic Organizing Inc, Peg Michels launched a 20 year demonstration of civic organizing in Minnesota called the Minnesota Active Citizenship Initiative- .  The initiative was launched in 1994 and is being organized in the projected four stages of civic organizing. Members use the Civic Organizing Framework, adapting the theory into individual and institutional practice to organize a civic infrastructure within their institution that develops the civic capacity of institutional members.  They do so while working together within the cross-sector Minnesota Active Citizenship base to learn from practice, develop educational tracks based upon lessons and to make a case for civic organizing in the state. We are currently in the 3rd stage and the initiative is governed by its members.

Tony Massengale is applying the Civic Organizing Framework in California.
